Fish Rondel

This is a glorious depiction of fish swimming in a sea of silver. Each fish is drawn up, cut out, painted, resined, then attached to the backing board which is covered in fine silver foil/leaf. Depending on the light the fish seem to be floating independently from the board. It’s 100cm. POA

Swan Song

Swan Song - painted on canvas 90x70cm. Immerse yourself in the ethereal beauty of 'Swan Song', a painting that transcends time and space. Amidst a backdrop of faded hydrangeas delicately rendered with strokes of muted hues, the painting acknowledges our beautiful iconic Crown Lynn ceramic swan. 'Swan Song' invites you to ponder the essence of transience and the timeless allure of nature's bittersweet melodies.

The shine on the canvas in the photos is because I photographed it after the final protective coats of varnish. Contact Windsor Gallery for further details, or to see the painting (03 3660724)

The Red Data Book

The 'Red Data Book' is a public document/book that was established to record the conservation status of rare, endangered and threatened species of animals, plants, and fungi.

Established in 1964, it serves as a crucial inventory for monitoring biodiversity, identifying species at risk of extinction, and guiding conservation actions.

This painting highlights a few of these criteria. Painted in acrylic on canvas. It measures 765×510mm. POA

Transience of Life

Painted on canvas 71x91cm, this painting is about the fleeting nature of life, and is also showcasing some of the beautiful things we have in New Zealand. The Fairy Tern at the top of the painting is critically endangered, and the Puriri Moth once hatched into a moth, only lives for about 48 hours.

The shine on the canvas in the photos is because I photographed it after the final protective coats of varnish. For further information contact polly@redbirdgallery.co.nz. POA

Pepetuna, the ghost of my ancestors

In this artwork, the elusive Pepetuna, also known as the Ghost Moth, takes center stage. Endemic to the North Island of New Zealand, the Pepetuna is not merely a moth but a symbol of the ethereal, a creature of the twilight hours that dances between the realms of the living and the spirit world. For generations, the Pepetuna has been regarded as a spiritual messenger, the ghost of an ancestor returning to visit his or her descendants.

Painted on MDF it is 60x101cm large. POA

Seeing our future through our past

In this painting, the delicate balance between beauty and fragility is delicately portrayed, serving as both a tribute to New Zealand's native species and a stark reminder of the irreversible losses already suffered.

This painting captures the essence of New Zealand's natural beauty while urging us to confront the stark reality of biodiversity loss. "Seeing Our Future Through Our Past" is more than just a painting; it is a call to action, a plea to honor and protect the precious treasures that remain, lest they too vanish into the annals of history.

This painting is 1000x1200x40mm, painted in acrylics on quality canvas. All photos are taken before varnishing (as it is too hard to get a good photo with varnish on) which is why you see a variation in background colour - it has disappeared after the coats of varnish. POA
